What to do if you have a bruise
(This is copy and paste from Incarnate word health system)
For ten minutes apply an ice pack, cold compress or
frozen bag of vegetables with moderate pressure to reduce pain and
swelling. Avoid applying heat in any form. A cold wet cloth should
be applied for bruises around the eyes. Ask the child simple questions
(like their name, age, etc) to check for confusion. Use a penlight
to check pupils for constriction.
When to call a health care provider:
Bruise doesn't fade or disappear. Bruises appear often for no
apparent reason. Vision is disturbed after a blow to the eye area.
In case of emergency:
Go immediately to an emergency center if: Child loses consciousness
at any time following the injury. Confusion, memory loss, blurred
vision or vomiting occurs. Pupils do not constrict or one pupil
constricts faster than the other.
